Thank You for the Gift of Understanding

A Thanksgiving poem thanking God for the gift of understanding how little we can understand:

Thank you for the gift of understanding
How little one can hope to understand.
A universe is all we have at hand,
Nothing too confusing or demanding.
Knowledge is like spindrift on the sea
Sitting on the surface of a wave.
Granted one can know how things behave,
Ill-formed to know how they might come to be.
Vast Your Being, beyond imagination!
Immeasurable, of neither shape nor size.
Nor ought one lose one's sense of adoration,
Gift equal to the gifts of mind and eyes.

Yours,

The party was a gift I'll long remember.
How might I tell you what it meant to me?
Acts of love, generous and tender,
No little pleasure add to memory.
Kindness makes it beautiful to be.

Yet I'd not allow you to be lender
Only, as in this poor poem I render
Unglazed a bit of grace for you to see.

Poem of the Week

Thank you all for coming here
To celebrate my life.
But most of all I'd like to thank
My lovely, loving wife.

One gives up a lot for love
In freedom, time, and tears,
And makes commitments that must last
For lifetimes, not just years.

What one gets I can see here –
A world one can call home,
A space that's safe for innocence,
A common comfort zone.

And so I'm glad that you have come,
All gathered in this place
To share this bit of birthday joy,
To share this glimpse of grace;

To share this meal with me as I
Another year accrue,
That I might know the happiness
I wish for all of you.
