Time Rewrites the Contract Every Day

June 9, 2020

Dear Subscriber:

Each week we examine a theme from a variety of points of view. The theme for this week is weddings.

I welcome comments on my poems at https://nicholasgordon.blogspot.com .

A name and wedding poem about the need to make the choice to love every day:

Time rewrites the contract every day.
In marriage one is never done with choosing,
For one is ever free beyond refusing,
Free at every moment, come what may.
A vow to love creates a sheltered bay,
Not free of wind and wave, but still a mooring,
Yielding anchorage well worth securing,
A safe, serene, and gentle place to stay.
Now choose it, choose its joy again, again.
Daily make the precious choice to love.
Make your will the sun upon your tides.
In choosing love, you will that joy sustain,
Knowing well the winds that in you move,
Embracing well the loved one by your side.
