Dear Subscriber:
Each week we examine a theme from a variety of points of
view. The theme for this week is fate, fortune, and free will.
I welcome comments on my poems at https://nicholasgordon.blogspot.com
.
A philosophical number poem about the interplay between
fortune and choice:
Fortune is a patchwork. What
it gives
Is always
linked to what it gives away.
For one
makes choices one cannot rescind
That shape
the miracles of every day.
Yet chance,
too, has its uninvited say.
One sets
one’s sails according to the wind,
Never less
than hopeful as one lives
Each moment with the
choice one leaves behind.
